Utes Finish in 10th at Husky Invite

SUNCADIA, Wash. – The Utah men’s golf team finished 10th at the Husky Invitational after shooting a final-round 16-over par (300) at Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort on Tuesday. The Utes finished the 54-hole tournament at 46-over par (898).

Senior Jose Pelayo, who carded a final-round score of 1-over par (72), recorded a top-20 finish after tying for 16th-place in the 66-player field. Pelayo managed to better his score each round and finished the event at 8-over par (76-73-72=221).

Three Utes finished among the top-50 players with junior Gentry Hicks carding a final-round 5-over par (76) to finish in a tie for 41st-place at 13-over par (77-73-76=226), junior Brandon Kida shooting a final-round 9-over par (80) to finish in a tie for 43rd at 14-over par (74-73-80=228) and senior Jonathon Thomas finished in a tie for 47th-place after recording a final-round 4-over par (75) to finish at 15-over par (75-78-75=228) for the event.

Senior Brent Pollock rounded out Utah’s team total, finishing in 6th-place after carding a 6-over par in the final round and finishing 28-over par (87-77-77=241) in the tournament.

Washington (+13) and Oregon (+13) finished in a tie for first-place, but there was not a playoff between the two teams, so the Huskies and Ducks were named co-champions of the event. Oregon State (+17) finished third, USC (+18) took fourth-place and Idaho (+26) rounded out the top five teams in the field.

Gonzaga (+39), Washington State (+41), UC Davis (+41), and Minnesota (+43) finished just ahead of Utah, while BYU (+47), Boise State (+48), Sacramento State (+51) and Seattle (+89) followed.

Playing in an individual tournament at Prospector Golf Couse, also located at Suncadia Resort, senior Steven Croft finished in a tie for 27th-place with a three-round score of 20-over par (236), while freshmen Trent Hill and Nathan Wunderli both tallied top-40 finishes. Hill carded a score of 23-over par (239) during the two-day event and Wunderli shot 24-over par (240).

Utah will have the next week off before hosting the Utah Invitational at The Jeremy Golf & Country Club. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will run Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5-6.
