Summerhays Exactly on the Bubble in FedEx Position Chase

For those Utah golf fans who are watching the BMW Championship and cheering for the trio of Utah State Amateur champions to advance

With one round to play in the BMW Championship it looks like Daniel Summerhays is the only Utahn with a chance to advance to the final leg of the FedEx Cup and Summerhays finds himself dead center at the critical cutoff point.

Only 30 players get to advance to that elite Fed Ex Championship next week and Daniel Summerhays is the man on the bubble. After the first three rounds of the BMW he is ranked 30th on the Fed Ex standings. That’s right. If for some reason the final round of the BMW is rained out he would advance, but that isn’t going to happen.

There are going to be ups and downs all day long and every putt, lipped out or in, will be critical to the final standings. It will be like a ball bouncing around in a roulette wheel

Here are the current standings of the players involved in this ever changing wheel of fortune.

Going into the final round the standings of the critical players are as follows:

Fed Ex Standings Around the top 30 Bubble

25- Brandt Snedeker (currently plus 4)

26- Harris English (currently -11)

27- Steven Bowditch (currently -2)

28- Sangmoon Bae, (currently -2)

29- Justin Thomas (currently -11)

30- Daniel Summerhays (currently -5)

31- Jay Haas (currently -5)

32- Louis Oosthuizen (currently -8)

33- David Lingmerth (currently -5)

34- Russell Knox (currently -3)

35- Ben Martin (currently plus 11)

Given their current score as the baseline the standings will change with every birdie or bogey of these key players.

Of course, wild swings of other players could also change the standings. Tony Finau is currently in 46th place and stands at even par.  If he were to go deep in the final round and 16 players in front of him were to have off days he could theoretically catch up, but it is not likely. Zac Blair is in 59th place and his season is essentially over at the end of the day.
