UVU WGolf: Nyhus posts school record 68 on Monday at Hobble Creek Classic

SPRINGVILLE, Utah – Utah Valley University junior Kimberly Nyhus posted a school record 3-under par 68 during Monday's opening round at UVU's Hobble Creek Fall Classic at Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville. The 68 is good enough to place her atop the tournament leaderboard after one completed round of play.
The tournament was scheduled for two rounds on Monday, but due to darkness the second round was suspended with three holes remaining on Monday evening. Heavy rainfall and lightning in the area resulted in a pair of hour-long suspensions during the day to cause round two to be unable to be completed on Monday. The second round is now slated to resume play on Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. (weather permitting) and will be followed immediately by the tournament's third and final round.
En route to her career-best and school record 68, Nyhus recorded four birdies and 13 pars during Monday's opening round at UVU's lone home tournament of the 2015-16 season.
As the team, the Wolverines find themselves in seventh place out of 16 teams after recording a 20-over par 304 in round one. Cal Poly and Hawai'i are tied for the tournament lead at 9-over par (293), while New Mexico State will enter Tuesday in third place at 14-over (298).
After a strong final nine holes of play, redshirt freshman Carly Dehlin finds herself tied for 31st place with a 5-over 76, while seniors Kalea Heu and Cassandra Lesa are each tied for 66th after carding identical 80s during Monday's opening round. Freshman Katie Perkins rounds out UVU's field of five as she sits in 74th place after putting up a 10-over par 81.
Fellow freshmen Pernille Echberg and Ana Raga made their collegiate debuts for the Wolverines at the tournament, as they are both playing as individuals. Echberg posted the third-best score of the day for UVU as she sits in 46th place after carding a 78 while Raga is tied for 90th after recording an 86.
