Jason Day Triumphs at PGA Championship, Finishes Tied for 10th
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — Jason Day not only captured his first major championship on Sunday. He won in record fashion. Behind huge drives and minimal mistakes, Day carded a final-round 67 to finish with a major-record 20-under and a three-shot win at the 97th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
Day, the 28-year-old Aussie, didn’t give playing partner Jordan Spieth much hope.
Spieth finished six shots shy of the Grand Slam this season, winning the Masters and U.S. Open and also finishing T4 at The Open Championship.
He did, however, claim one title on Sunday: No. 1 golfer in the world.
Utah’s Tony Finau shot a final round 71 and finished in a tie for tenth place, which was good for $243,000, the largest paycheck of his PGA Tour career. His earnings for the year are now $1,944,046.
Daniel Summerhays and Zac Blair had the week off. Summerhays has earnings of 1.085,122 for the season and Blair has won $844,936.
