Finau’s 71 In Good Company at PGA Championship

Tony Finau shot an opening round of one under par 71 at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin and finds himself tied with Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Jason Dufner, Sangmoon Bae, Webb Simpson, Steve Stricker, Ernie Els, and Brandt Snedecker

He’s a shot ahead of Louis Oosthizen, Sergio Garcia, Hunter Mahan, Bubba Watson, Lee Westwood, and Phil Mickelsen.

That’s pretty good company he’s keeping. It’s certainly an upscale neighborhood, but he’s five shots behind the company he wants to keep, Dustin Johnson, who took the first round lead with a score of six under par 66. Finau’s 71 is tied for 24th place.

So it goes at the Majors.

Finau is the only Utahn invited to the Upper Crust this year. Usually there are two or three Utahns in this one because part of the field is allotted to ordinary-every-day-go-to-work PGA professionals from throughout the country, but our guys didn't make it  this year.
