Defending Champion Lea Garner Leads UGA Women’s Stroke Play

Lea Garner, the defending champion of last year’s inaugural UGA Women’s Stroke Play championship, has her eyes on winning it again. She shot a 68 in the first round and holds a one-shot lead over Kendra Dalton and Haylee Chugg. Dalton, Garner’s BYU teammate, was runner-up last year. The36-hole  tournament is being played at Fox Hollow and concludes Thursday.

There were eight players at par or better and so the title chase is still wide open.

Sirene Blair shot two under par 70 and is very much in contention. At 71 are Kelsey Chugg and Annie Yang and at even par are Sadie Palmer and Naomi Soifua.

The leading scores at mid-point are as follows:

68- Lea Garner

69- Haylee Chugg, Kendra Dalton

70- Sirene Blair

71- Kelsey Chugg, Annie Yang

72- Sadie Palmer, Naomi Soifua
