Parkinson, Jeon Earn Spots in U.S. Amateur
Joe Parkinson birdied the last hole of his home course at Alpine Country Club to earn a spot in the United State Amateur championship. He shot back-to-back 69s to top the field with a six under par score of 138.
Three other players finished one shot back of Parkinson at five under par and had to playoff for the second qualifying spot. The spot was won by Seokown Jeon with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Connor Howe parred the hole to become the first alternate, and Brandon Kida bogeyed the hole to become the second alternate.
In regulation play all four of them were tied going onto the last hole and Parkinson’s birdie won the first qualifying spot.
The best round of the day was a closing round of 66 by Joshua Lillywhite, but he was three over par on the first 18 holes.
There were 72 players entered in the qualifying.
The U.S. Amateur will be held August 17-23 at Olympia Fields Country Club in Illinois.
