Cream Still Rising at UGA Senior Am; Marriott Claims Super Senior Title
The cream is rising to the top at the UGA Senior Amateur Championship at East Bay Golf Club, but there is still one more shake of the milk carton before a champion is crowned.
Kirk Siddens moved to the top after a first round 63, but after the second shake he was joined at the top by Craig Wilson. Siddens has fired rounds of 63-66-129 and Wilson is also at 129 on rounds of 65-64.
Within shaking distance is Jeff Powars who shot a second round 63 to go with his opening round of 68 for a 131 two-day score.
Brett Sampson, who has a home course knowledge edge, is probably too far back. He’s in fourth place at nine under par 135 on rounds of 69-66.
The rest of the field is too far back to dream of a title. The final round of the 54-hole championship will be Saturday at East Bay.
In the Super Senior Division Doug Marriott came from one shot back to edge Mike Cloney by one shot to win the UGA Super Senior Championship Friday at East Bay Golf Course. Marriott shot 71-70-141 to claim the title and Cloney shot 70-72-142. David Fischer edged the rest of the field to take a distant third place at 149 on rounds of 74-75. East Bay’s John Taylor finished fourth with rounds of 72-79-151.
Keith Crouch easily won the Net Division by seven shots over Toa Sua Leiataua. Crouch shot consistent net scores of 64-63-127 and Leiataua shot 73-61-132.
The Super Senior Division and the Net Division were two-day affairs and finished Friday and the Senior Division is 54-holes and concludes Saturday.
