Siddens Leads Senior Am With 63, Wilson Close Behind With 65
Kirk Siddens and Craig Wilson blistered the East Bay Golf Course Thursday in the first round of the three round Utah State Senior Amateur Championship. Siddens shot nine under par 63 and Wilson is just two shots back with a 65. Between the two of them they would have had a best ball of 59. Siddens had seven birdies and an eagle on 13 and Wilson had five birdies and an eagle on 15.
Siddens and Wilson have both won the UGA Senior Match Play, but have not won the Senior Am ‘as of yet.’ Siddens won the match play title in 2013 and 2014, and Wilson won the match play title earlier this year at Davis Park.
In third place, five shots off the lead, are Ron Davis, Jeff Powars, and Mike Davis.
East Bay’s Brett Sampson stands at 69 and Pat Murphy is at 71. They have some catching up to do if they are to win the title on their home course.
The Super Senior Division (60 and over) is much closer with Mike Cloney, a new name on the UGA senior list, holding a one shot lead over Doug Marriott and a two shot lead over Bradley Rich and East Bay’s John Taylor There are some other good players lurking in the wings who could capitalize on any faltering of the leaders.
Brad Rich leads the Net Division with a net 62.
The Championship Flight is a 54-hole tournament and concludes on Saturday. The other flights are 36-holes and conclude Friday.
