Rasmussen, Prendergast Medal at USGA Junior Boys, Girls Qualifyings
Qualifying tournaments for the USGA Junior Boys and Junior Girls Championships were held Tuesday in Utah. The boys competed at Wolf Creek and the girls played at Hidden Valley Country Club.
Rhett Rasmussen won the 36-hole USGA Boys Junior Amateur Qualifying with back-to-back rounds of 69-69-138. Reese Ransey, of Austin Texas, won the other qualifying spot with a score of 72-69-141. Connor Howe, of Ogden, earned an alternate spot with rounds of 74-68-142. Other alternates were Cole Ponich of Farmington, 74-72-146 and Josh Lillywhite of Orem, 73-73-146.
Karina Prendergast, of Sparks, Nevada, won medalist honors in the girls qualifying at Hidden Valley Country Club. She shot 69. Jessica Sloot, of Davis, also qualified with a 72. Laura Gerner, 73, and Kerstin Fotu are alternates.
The USGA champions for the junior boys and girls will be held the same week, July 20-25. The USGA Boys Junior Amateur Championship will be held at Colleton River Plantation Club in Blufton, South Carolina, and the USGA Girls Junior Amateur will be held at Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Jeff Thurman is the Utah chairman of the USGA Boys Championship and Judy Allem is the chairwoman of the USGA Girls Championship.
