Golf Clinic Tees Off Provo Open Activities Wednesday
The annual Provo Open Championship will celebrate its 76th year this weekend at East Bay Golf Course.
The tournament week will get started on Wednesday June 10th with a full field of amateurs playing for the Karl Tucker Amateur prizes. Also on Wednesday, East Bay golf professionals, Provo Open past champions, tournament sponsors and sports media members will join with the Utah Section PGA to conduct the annual Karl Tucker Golf Clinic for the Utah County Boys and Girls Club. This special event is a highlight of the week with Utah County children watching, learning and participating in golf lessons and activities. Past Champions Dusty Fielding, Nick Killpack and the 4A Girls Golf State Champions from Provo High School will help with instruction.
Thursday the 11th through Saturday the 1413th the 76th annual Provo Open Championship will feature some of Utah’s best professional and amateur golfers. Provo Open Tournament Director Gary Golightly said, “We are really excited about Provo Open week and the strength of field for our championship!”
Kean Ridd, East Bay head golf professional is looking forward to the charity work the tournament will do again this year through the Coach Karl Tucker Foundation. This foundation was endowed in honor of former Provo Open Chairman and Utah golf legend Karl Tucker who passed away in 2010.
“We all miss Karl and anything we can do to continue the tournament’s legacy of helping children-based charity needs and junior golf, under the foundation’s name, is gratifying,” explained Ridd. “Karl was adamant about growing the game of golf especially for junior golfers in Utah County.
Over the years, in addition to the golf clinic, the tournament and its sponsors have been able to support the Utah Junior Golf Association’s Karl Tucker Memorial tournament held annually in Utah County.
“This year, NuSkin, the Utah County Commissioners office, Provo City, tournament sponsors, Utah Section PGA professionals and Provo Open past champions will again introduce the game of golf to Utah County youth that otherwise may not have a chance to be exposed to this game that Karl Tucker loved so much,” said Ridd.
NuSkin Director of Corporate Services and Provo Open board member Derek Roney said, “Our company is honored to be a part of this first class event. In addition to highlighting one of Utah County’s championship courses, the Provo Open sponsors have been responsible for raising over five million dollars for charity over the last 20 plus years.”
“Tournament event information and its historic past are now available online.” East Bay Golf Course Assistant Golf Professional Brett Watson said, “We have created a Provo Open page on the www.eastbaygolf.com website, which provides general information and highlights past tournaments and sponsors.”
