Rogers Medalist in Second Wingpointe SA Qualifying, Both Cuts at 77

The Utah State Amateur qualifying process got off to a good start the last two days at Wingpointe Golf Course. Wingpointe hosted two separate qualifyings and the fields couldn’t have been divided more evenly.

All those who shot 77 or better at each qualifying advanced to the finals that will be held at Soldier Hollow in July. In the first qualifying two players who shot 78 earned spots through a playoff, but in the second qualifying a playoff of those who shot 78 were just for alternate spots.

Jordan Rogers, of Spanish Fork, not BYU, was medalist of the Wednesday qualifying with a two under par 70. (Rodgers from BYU spells his name with a d.) Rogers had four birdies and two bogeys to post the best round of the day. The medalist on Tuesday was Justin Schluker with a 68.

Several of the state’s top players were in the Wednesday field and advanced to the finals including Ryan Brimley and former runnerup John Tagge with 73s, Nick Smart with a 75, and Brandon Hargett, right on the number at 77.

Three good players, J.T. Timmons, Dan Johnson, and Jason Struck failed to advance. They each shot 80.

The next State Am Qualifying will be Friday at Thanksgiving Point.
