Shluker Tops First SA Qualifying at Wingpointe

The first qualifying round for the 2015 Utah State Amateur was held Tuesday at Wingpointe Golf Course and no big name players fell by the wayside.

Justin Shluker won medalist honors with a four under par 68 on five birdies and one bogey and coasted to medalist honors with a three shot margin to spare. Shluker’s home course is Park City and he carries a plus 2.8 handicap index.

Robert McRae and Tyler Hand tied for runnerup at one under par. They each eagled the 15th hole to get under par for the day

The playoff for the State Am spots came at 78 where seven players were tied for four available spots and two alternate spots. The four who advanced were J.T. Lambourne, Rich Tripp, Jerzee Houston, and Henry Poulton. The first alternate is Isaiah Wolferstan, and the second alternate is Jason Celaya.

“The scores were higher than expected given the number of low scores at the Dick Kramer SLC Amateur just two days ago,” said Jake Miller, UGA Tournament Director. “The wind was manageable, and the conditions were pretty normal,” he said.

The second qualifying will be tomorrow at Wingpointe and then moves to Thanksgiving for the third qualifying round on Friday.
