Utah Golf Association - June Championship Preview
Today marks the beginning of an action packed month for the Utah Golf Association. The first week of June will include three Utah State Amateur Qualifiers and the Utah State Mid-Amateur, where Jason Hargett will look to defend his title at Valley View Golf Course. Hot on his heels will be some of Utah’s finest players, such as Jon Wright, Robbie Fillmore, Brandon Hargett, and Dan Horner. And don’t count any of the players in the Masters or Senior divisions of the championship out! Everyone in the 90-player field will be looking to win their division for the ultimate prize, an exemption into the 2016 Utah State Amateur.
The second week of June will bring two more Utah State Amateur Qualifiers and the Utah Women’s Four-Ball, which will be the first women’s event of the summer. Last year Randi Stephens and Sadie Palmer ran away with the trophy, but with teams like Sue and Kimberly Nyhus and Lea Garner and Kendra Dalton in the field this year, it is sure to be a battle down to the end. Entries are still open for the event, which will be held at Glendale and Rose Park.
The final weeks of June will continue to be busy, with the remaining five Utah State Amateur Qualifiers, the U.S Girls Junior Amateur Qualifier, the U.S Junior Amateur Qualifier, and the Mary Lou Baker Open. The young men and women who qualify at the local U.S Junior Amateur Qualifiers will move on to their respective national championships later in the summer. The Mary Lou Baker Open will be held at Davis Park Golf Course in Davis County, a familiar track for many of the local girls. Kelsey Chugg will be defending her title, but the field is sure to be filled with talents like Sirene Blair, Lea Garner, Sadie Palmer, and Sue Nyhus who will be looking to take home the hardware.
Did you miss the deadline to sign up for the State Amateur or have a bad round at the site you played? It’s not the end of the line for you! The Last Chance Qualifier will be held at Wolf Creek Golf Course in Eden on the 29th of June. The online-only registration for this event opens at 8:00 A.M. on June 25th, and you will have to act fast if you want in, as last year all 84 spots were snatched up in 13 minutes!
