Moody Tops Last Week’s Newsmakers, Dick Kramer SLC Amateur Takes Spotlight This Week
Chris Moody topped the newsmakers in local golf events this past week when he made history by becoming the first pro to win the Utah Section Match Play Championship three years in a row. He defeated Tracy Zobell in the championship match, 2-up, for his 15th straight match play victory going back three years.
During the tournament he was forced to play the 18th hole only once, in the semifinals against Todd Tanner. His other victories were over Charles Taylor and Brad Richards by 4 and 3 margins, and a 5 and 4 win over Stacy Jones.
On the amateur side the top performers were C.J. Lee in winning the Glen Eagle Am and Joe Parkinson in besting the field at the Valley View Am with a 66.
On the senior side John Harris won the two-day Weber County Am at Mt. Ogden and the Barn.
The Logan River Am was a casualty of the rainy week and its tournament was postponed for a later date.
This week the spotlight will be on the Dick Kramer Salt Lake City Open on Saturday and Sunday which will be held for the first time at Wingpointe Golf Course. It has been held at Bonneville Golf Course since its inception, but the course is finally getting a modern sprinkling system and the construction process would interfere with top tournament conditions.
Also on Saturday will be the Bloomington Amateur and the Sleepy Ridge Amateur.
The women have the Lone Wolf tournament at Stansbury.
