Moody Keeps Winning at Utah PGA Match Play, Final Matches Wednesday
The final two rounds of the Utah Section PGA Match Play Championship will be played Wednesday at the Hubbard Golf Course at Hill Air Force Base.
In one semifinal match two-time defending champion Chris Moody will face Todd Tanner and the other match will pit Tracy Zobell against Pete Stone.
Moody and Tanner have advanced to the semifinals with relative ease. Moody hasn’t had to play the last three holes in any of his matches, and Tanner hasn’t seen the last two holes.
Moody’s 5 and 4 quarterfinal win over Stacy Jones was his 13th straight win in match play over the past three years of the tournament. That win put him over the superstitious 13th milepost and so Tanner won’t have that working in his favor. Given Moody’s impressive record he will be the favorite in every match until someone steps up and knocks him over.
In the other semifinal match Tracy Zobell will face Pete Stone. Zobell has defeated Milo Lines, 4 and 3; upset Zach Johnson, 1-up; and had a surprisingly easy time with Troy Watkins, 6 and 5.
Pete Stone defeated Jeremy Green, 5 and 3; and then toppled two of the section’s best players, Mark Owen, 3 and 2, and Joe Summerhays, 1-up.
All four players are playing well and it should be a great day of golf at Hubbard Golf Course.
