Soifua Leads Provo to Class 4A Girls Golf Championship
Naomi Souifua led the Provo Bulldogs to a dominating win of the Class 4A Girls High School championship at Eagle Mountain Golf Course with Bountiful the only team that gave the Bulldogs any resistance. The two-day tournament was played under the Stableford Scoring System that awards points instead of counting strokes, and the team with the most points wins. Provo tallied 597 points and Bountiful finished an easy second with 586 points. Corner Canyon was third, but way down the ladder at 554 points.
Soifua blew away the field in the first round when she tallied 94 points and topped off her medalist honors with a second round of 86 points. Xena Motes of Ogden had the best round of the second day with 88 points, but she still finished eight points behind Soifua.
Other outstanding scores were turned in by Karen Valcarce of Bountiful with 168 points and Lydia Austin of Springville with 167 points.
