Blair, Garner Playing in Women’s NCAA Regional at Entrada Country Club
Two Utah women golfers are currently playing in the NCAA St. George Regional at Entrada Country Club. Lea Garner, of BYU, shot a first round 78 and stands in 39th place and Sirene Blair, playing for San Diego State, shot 79 and is in 39th place. The two Utah golfers have been competing against each other in major golfing events since they began playing in the Utah Junior Golf Association many years ago.
San Diego State qualified for the tournament as a team, but BYU did not qualify. Garner is playing as an invited individual. San Diego State is in 12th place after the first round.
Blair, the reigning Utah State Women’s Amateur champion, shot 36 on the front side and started on the back with a birdie, but ran into trouble with two double bogeys and a triple bogey on the back nine for a 43 and an eight over par 79.
California’s Pauline Loilier shot the best individual opening round with a three under par 68.
USC leads the team field with a 293, six shots ahead of California.
