Utah State’s Seokwon Jeon Named Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week
LOGAN, Utah – Utah State junior Seokwon Jeon (Suh-kwon John) has been named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week it was announced by the league office Tuesday.
Overall, it is the first time this year and second time in his career that Jeon has been named the MW Golfer of the Week.
Jeon (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished in second-place at the BYU-hosted PING Cougar Classic last weekend with a 5-under par 211 (71-70-70) as he lost to tournament champion Jordan Rogers of BYU on the second playoff hole. Both players began the playoff by parring the par-4 18th hole. They then moved to the par-4 first hole, where Rogers made par and Jeon bogeyed.
Overall, Jeon's 5-under 211 is tied for his best 54-hole score this season, while his second-place outing is his best tournament finish of the season and the second-best of his career as he took medalist honors at the Utah Invitational in October of 2013.
Utah State finished the 11-team BYU-hosted PING Cougar Classic in seventh-place with a 6-over 870 (290-288-292).
On the season, Jeon has a stroke average of 72.73 over 22 rounds and has shot par or better in 11 of those rounds.
Utah State men’s golf will conclude its 2015 season this weekend as it travels to Tucson, Ariz., to compete in the Mountain West Championships on Friday through Sunday, May 1-3.
