New Mexico State Dominates WAC Conference Championship, Wolverines Finish Fifth
New Mexico State women’s golf team, with three players capturing the top four spots, ran away with the Western Athletic Conference women’s golf championship this week at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Arizona.
The teams were all in the Western Athletic Conference, but New Mexico State was in a league of its own. The Aggies beat second place Seattle by 34 shots and third place UMKC by 52 shots.
The Aggies were led by the dynamic duo of Viviane Macious who shot one under par 71-72-72-215 for medalist honors, and Kacey Dalpes who shot even par 73-71-72-216, just one shot behind her medalist teammate. Another Aggie, Camille Orito, finished fourth at five over par 221.
Utah Valley University finished fifth and got good performances from all five players and all of them were within five shots of each other. Heather Mathison and Kimberly Nyhus each shot 239 to top the Wolverines, but Hannah Herman was close at 243 and Cassandra Lesa and Monica Yeates were just one shot back at 244.
