Utah Golf Closes Out Season with Fourth-Place Finish
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Utah golf team wrapped up their final regular-season tournament of the season Tuesday at the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate at the Sandpiper Golf Club. A three-round total of 882 (295-294-293) secured fourth place for the Utes while two golfers finished in the top 10 of the individual standings.
Junior Brandon Kida went two under par in the third round to earn himself a one over par total of 217 (72-75-70) to tie for fifth. Kida has placed in a tie for fifth twice this season, which is his career-best finish. Not far behind was junior Jose Pelayo with a three over 219 (75-71-73) to tie for eighth. Junior Jonathon Thomas posted his tournament low during the third round to finish in a tie for 16th with a score of 225 (79-74-72), while junior Max McGrail tied for 22nd with a mark of 227 (74-74-79). Junior Steven Croft rounded out Utah's lineup in a tie for 31st with a score of 230 (74-78-78).
Senior Jack Maerki, junior Brent Pollock and sophomore Justin Mortensen each finished as individuals in the middle of the standings. Maerki tied for 29th after swinging a one under par 71 in the third round, Pollock tied for 31st and Mortensen placed 36th.
The Utes next appear at the 2015 Pac-12 Championships in Pullman, Wash., April 27-29 at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.
