UVU’s Kim Nyhus pacing UVU after 36 holes at Wyoming Cowgirl Classic
MARICOPA, Ariz. – Sophomore Kimberly Nyhus is leading the way for the Utah Valley University women's golf team after 36 holes of play at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Monday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona, as she sits in a tie for 57th place at 12-over par.
Nyhus carded a 5-over par 77 and a 7-over 79 en route to her 156. She also recorded a pair of birdies in each round for a total of four on the day.
Junior Cassandra Lesa and sophomore Monica Yeates are next for UVU as they are both tied for 84th place at 17-over par (161). Lesa put up scores of 79 and 82 on Monday while Yeates carded an 84 and a 77.
As a team the Wolverines sit in 22nd place with a 638 (+62). UVU put up scores 323 and 318 on Monday.
Nevada is leading the tournament at 18-over par (594), while Washington State and San Francisco sit in second and third, respectively, at 23 and 24-over. USF's Emelie Lundstrom paces the field at even par (144).
Seniors Heather Mathison and Hannah Herman round of the Wolverines' field of five as they sit in 101st and 110th places, respectively. Mathison will enter Tuesday's final round with a 165 (88-77) while Herman holds a 169 (83-86).
Tuesday's final round of the Cowgirl Classic will begin at 8:45 a.m. MT. Live results can be followed by visiting GolfStat.com.
Following the conclusion for this week's tournament, UVU will prepare for the WAC Championship that will be contested April 20-22 at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
