Finau Fights Slump With Solid 69 at Shell Houston Open

Tony Finau got off to a fast start in his rookie year on the PGA Tour, but has fallen on tough times this past month and has been in a slump on the scoreboard.

He missed only one cut in his first ten tournaments and pocketed $760,000, but this past month he missed three straight cuts and last week at the Valero Open barely made the cut and finished near the bottom of the leaderboard with his highest four round total of the year, 301.

Thursday at the Shell Houston Open he shot an opening round of 69 and stands in 28th place and is in good position to make the cut. Finau is hoping to get back in the confident rhythm he had in the early season. A good round Friday would be helpful.

Zac Blair has been a steady performer in his rookie season, and just last week finished 21st in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and pocketed $60,000 and moved his season total to $640,000.

However, Thursday at the Shell Houston Open he shot 76 in the first round and stands in 138th position and must shoot a low number Friday to make the cut.

Daniel Summerhays, who pocketed $272,000 last week with a fourth place finish in the Valero Texas Open, is taking this week off.
