Dixie State’s Kenny You wins third tournament of the spring at Pioneer Shootout

VALLEJO, Calif. – Kenny You (Sandy, UT/Alta) shot a final round of 73 to finish three rounds at two-over, winning his second consecutive tournament and third of the year at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout. The Dixie State men's golf team finished fourth overall.

You's victory at the Cal State East Bay hosted event comes on the heels of his win last week at the Cal Baptist Invitational. Earlier in the year he won the Pat Hicks Invitational. He has won three out of four events during the spring season, finishing second in the other. You's 218 total bested the second-place finishers by three strokes at the Hiddenbrooke Golf Course.

“Kenny is really playing amazing,” head coach Brad Sutterfield said. “He is just getting out of his own way and letting it happen. It has been fun to watch.”

DSU's team total was 910 after notching a 312 in the third round on the Par 72 course. The three-round total was 914. Cal State Monterey Bay held on to win with an 897 while Sonoma State (907) and Chico State (910) took second and third, respectively.

Finishing in 24th overall, Connor Van Gilder (Saint George, UT/Dixie) posted a 79 in his final round whileDane Nelson (Farmington, UT/Davis) logged an 80 to tie for 36th.

Cody Wass (West Haven, UT/Fremont) was No. 4 for Dixie State and tied for 43rd overall with an 80 in his final round. Donny Hopoi (Aiea, HI/Kamehameha) finished with an 82 to tie for 94th at the tournament.

The Red Storm play next at the Western New Mexico Intercollegiate Tournament on April 6-7.
