Sirene Blair Named Player of Week in Mountain West Conference
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State's Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) was named Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week for tournaments played March 2-11, as announced Friday by the league office. With her selection, the Aztec sophomore collected her second conference weekly/monthly award this season and fourth of her career.
Blair is coming off a tie for the runner-up position at the highly competitive Bruin Wave Invitational, held March 2-3 in Tarzana, Calif., where she led SDSU to a fourth-place team finish in a field of 15 schools that featured nine top-50 squads. The Utah native shot a combined 5-over 221 (73-75-73) on the challenging par-72, 6,173-yard El Caballero Country Club layout, besting 14 players who are currently ranked among the Golfstat top 100.
Blair drained nine birdies for the tournament, including six in the opening two rounds that were hampered by damp and rainy conditions en route to her third top-five finish this year and sixth top-10 placement of her career.
Blair, who finds herself at No. 80 in the latest Golfstat Cup standings, ranks sixth in the Mountain West with a 73.94 stroke average through six events this season.
Blair and the Aztecs return to tournament competition in 10 days when they play host to the third annual SDSU Farms Invitational, March 23-25, in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
