Dixie State takes fourth at Coyote Classic
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Kenny you stayed consistent with rounds of 70, 71 and 70 to finish the Coyote Classic tied for second overall, leading Dixie State to a fourth-place finish.
The Red Storm golfers combined to shoot a final round of 291 on the Par 70 course. The team's three day total was 874, putting them just 10 strokes behind tournament winner Chico State. Redlands took second with an 869 and Cal Baptist edged out DSU by one stroke with an 873.
“Overall as a team we played solid,” head coach Brad Sutterfield said. “We had a chance to win after the first day but we have to minimize our mistakes. I am proud of the guys for battling in tough conditions.”
In round three, Dixie State moved up from fifth to fourth after You's final 70 and another 70 from Connor Van Gilder (Saint George, UT/Dixie). You tied for second while Van Gilder moved up from 45th to tie for 22nd overall.
Donny Hopoi (Aiea, HI/Kamehameha) shot a 72 in the final round to finish tied for 15th.
The fourth finishing golfer for DSU was Dane Nelson (Farmington, UT/Davis) with a 79 in the final round, earning him a 30th place finish while Tyson Tanner () logged a final score of 80 to take No. 68 overall.
Dixie State will play next month on March 23 at the Cal Baptist Men's Invitational in Riverside.
