Utah Valley men’s golf sits atop 17-team leaderboard at Loyola Golf Invite

GOODYEAR, Ariz.—The Utah Valley University men's golf team sits atop the 17-team leaderboard at the Loyola Golf Invitational after shooting an 8-under par 280 Sunday at the Palm Valley Golf Club. The Wolverines head into second round play on Monday with a five-stroke lead over second place Missouri.

Three Wolverines rank in the top-10 individually after one round of play. Sophomore JT Timmons sits in a tie for the lead at 5-under par 67. Timmons recorded six birdies on the day, including four on the front nine.

“I'm proud of how the guys battled today,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Curran. “The wind was up and made conditions tough. To have four guys finish at par or better is awesome. JT (Timmons) putted the ball beautifully. We have a lot of golf left to play but we put ourselves in a good spot.”

Senior Brayden Eriksen sits in a tie for fifth after shooting a 2-under par 70 with four birdies, including three on the front nine. Senior Michael Dart carded a 1-under 71 to place him in a tie for ninth with two rounds to play.

Freshman Blair Bursey is in a tie for 17th after recording an even par 72. Bursey connected on three birdies on the day. Senior Preston Richards rounded out the scoring for Utah Valley with a 6-over par 78 to sit in a tie for the 72nd spot.

The Wolverines head into second round play on Monday with a five-shot lead over Missouri (285) and a 10-shot advantage over DePaul, who sit in second and third place, respectively.

The Wolverines will continue play at the Loyola Golf Invitational with second round play on Monday. The third and final round will be played on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available on WolverineGreen.com, with links to Golfstat.com.
