Hahn Wins Three-Way Playoff; Summerhays Tops Utahns
James Hahn won the Northern Trust Open title in a three-way playoff by making birdies on the second and third hole. His rounds were 66-74-69-69-278. Losing in the playoff were Paul Casey and Dustin Johnson. The tournament was played at Riviera Country Club.
Daniel Summerhays shot a 66 to share the first round lead, but it was all downhill from there. He finished with rounds of 74-73-72-285 and had to settle for a tie for 30th place. His earnings for the year are $248,001.
Tony Finau also got off to a good start, shooting back-to-back opening rounds of 70 and at the halfway point shared 11th place with Summerhays, but he collapsed the final two days with rounds of 77-73 and finished in 56th place at 290 and earned $15,008, moving this year’s total to $759,272.
In a rare pairing between two former Utah State Amateur champions, Summerhays and Finau were paired in the same group for the third round and it had to bring back old memories of when the two faced each other in the final match of the Utah State Am in 2006 at Soldier Hollow. Finau won that match but Summerhays got the best of him at Riviera Country Club, shooting a 73 to Finau’s 77. Summerhays won the State Am in 2000 and 2001.
