UVU Women Finish Tenth in Florida
ESTERO, Fla. – The Utah Valley University women's golf team finished in 10th place at the FGCU Eagle Invitational at the Stoneybrook Golf Course in Estero, Florida. It was UVU’s first tournament of the Spring season.
Sophomore Kimberly Nyhus led the Way for the Wolverines on Sunday by firing a 4-over par 76. With Nyhus' strong final round she finished in a tie for 29th place with a three-day total of 239 (+23). Nyhus also carded an 80 and 83 at the tournament.
Junior Cassandra Lesa was next for Utah Valley as she placed 33rd at 25-over (241). After recording scores of 76 and 79 earlier on the weekend, Lesa put up an 86 during Sunday's final round.
Senior Hannah Herman finished one shot back of Lesa for 37th place after turning in an 85 on Sunday. Herman posted a 78 and 79 earlier on the weekend en route to her 242 (+26).
Senior Heather Mathison and sophomore Monica Yeates rounded out UVU's field of five as they finished in 62nd and 70th, respectively. Mathison posted a three-day total of 250 (82-81-87) while Yeates finished with a 258 (87-88-83).
By taking 10th, UVU finished ahead of USC Upstate (11th), Northern Kentucky (12th), Drake (13th) and Florida Atlantic (14th) at the tournament.
Elon won the tournament with a 901 (+37), while Toledo and Daytona State finished in a tie for second at 54-over par (918).
Individually, Toledo's Sathika Ruenreong and Daytona State's Tiffany Chan earned a share of the tournament title at 5-over par (221).
UVU will play next at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Arizona.
