Utah Takes Third at Southwest Team Challenge

Cascata Golf Club once again played host to the 2014 Southwest Team Matches.  This event features teams from different associations around the country competing in a four-ball match play format.  Eight of Utah’s top players earned their way onto the team via the UGA Player Performance Rankings.  The senior team included Kirk Siddens, Brett Sampson, Pat Murphy and Mike Jorgensen.  The mid-amateur team consisted of Jon Wright, Darrin Overson, Jason Hargett and Christen Jensen.

The matches took place over three days and the team with the most amount of points would win the tournament.  After Day 1 Utah earned 25 points and was sitting in second place behind a very talented Arizona team.  Days two and three proved to be tough for Utah as even though many birdies were tallied by the Utah team, their opponents were up to the task making it difficult for the Utahans to put many point on the board.  Utah put up 15 points on day two and 16 points on day three for a tournament total of 56.  Unfortunately Arizona came to play and put up a massive total of 77 points over the three day competition to take the title.  Utah finished in third place for the event.  Pictures and detailed results available on our Facebook page.
