Three Utah State Am Champs Begin Historic 2015 PGA Tour

Three former Utah State Amateur champions teed off Thursday in the first round of the first tournament of the 2015 PGA Tour season. All three, veteran Daniel Summerhays and rookies Tony Finau and Zac Blair, are fully exempt on the tour this season.
It is the first time in Utah golf history when three players from Utah have fully exempt status in the same season, and research may show that it is the first time three State Am champions from any state have played on the tour at the same time.
The season started with the Championship at Silverado Country Club in Napa, California and all three Utahns shot under par opening rounds. Finau and Blair finished at three under par and Summerhays posted one under par.
Finau started off on number ten tee with a bogey and then posted three birdies to make the turn at three under par. He triple bogeyed number one and then posted three birdies coming home.
Blair started on number one and posted birdies on five and six and turned at two under. He bogeyed ten and 12 to fall back to even and then finished with birdies on 13, 16, and 18.
Summerhays also started on ten and double bogeyed the 11th and bogeyed the 15th to go three over par, but he turned it around on the front side of the scorecard with four birdies and a bogey to finish in red numbers.
Summerhays won the State Am twice, 2000 at Oakridge CC and 2001 at Wasatach Mountain. Finau won it in 2006, beating Summerhays in the final match at Soldier Hollow. Blair won it at Valley View in 2008.
