Sand Hollow Open Leaderboard Crowded at the Top
HURRICANE, UT – After 36-holes at the Sand Hollow Open, the leaderboard remains crowded at the top and includes Utah’s Zac Blair, Dusty Fielding and Clay Ogden.
Blair, fresh from earning his 2014-2015 PGA TOUR card, joined first round leaders Steve Friesen, Kyle Souza and Tyler Aldridge with a two-day score of (-15) 129. Fielding slipped from first to fifth place with a second round score of 67, 131 total. Ogden, a former two-time Utah Open and USGA Public Links champion made the biggest move on the day with his second round 7-under, 65 and is now tied for 9th place.
Friesen, a former Web.Com Tour tournament winner, is pleased with his two day effort and happy with the way the golf course fits his game. Like Fielding, Friesen is looking for tournaments to play in and some confidence in his game heading into the Web.Com Tour’s qualifying tournament in a few weeks. Because of his win at the 2011 Web.Com Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Championship Presented by Dr Pepper, Friesen is exempt into the second round of this year’s Q-School. Looking for more consistency in his “process” and “shot selection” Friesen is willing to let results not be the only definition of his current success.
At 37-years old the Arizona pro has recommitted himself to professional golf at the highest level and has been playing state opens and mini-tour events this summer with an eye towards getting back on the Web.Com Tour.
Possessing no small amount of confidence, it’s no surprise that Blair is T1 heading into Saturday’s final round. While the Sand Hollow Open presented by the Leavitt Group’s first place check of $15,000 would be helpful for future wedding plans, Blair is content with keeping his swing in tournament condition heading into the new PGA TOUR tournament season. Starting on the back nine of the Championship Course, Blair made the turn at 4-under and matched that score on his final nine holes carding an 8-under 64 for the second round. Blair will join Utah’s Tony Finau as PGA TOUR member rookies at the upcoming Frys.Com Open Oct. 9-12 and Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Oct. 16-19.
The low amateur after 36-holes is former BYU golfer Justin Keiley with a 6-under 138. Chasing Keiley for low am honors is Hayden Christensen at (-1) 143.
Following Friday’s play the field was cut to the low 30 scores and ties with 32 players shooting 1-under 143 or better. Tomorrow’s final round will tee off at 8:00 a.m. with twosomes teeing off on the number one hole of the Championship Course at Sand Hollow Resort. The final pairing of the day features Blair and Souza at 10:00 a.m. with Aldridge and Friesen teeing off just ahead of them at 9:48.
