Volk Wins Utah PGA Section Championship
Dustin Volk, head pro at Valley View, shot steady back-to-back 67s to win the Utah Section PGA Championship at Toana Vista Wednesday by two shots over Zach Johnson and Tele Wightman.
Johnson birdied the 15th hole to briefly share the lead with Volk, but then bogeyed 16 and double bogeyed 17 to fall into a tie for second with Wightman. Volk’s win was worth a $4500 first prize.
Tommy Sharp finished fourth and Riverside’s double-barrel assistant pros Chris Moody and Matt Baird finished tied for fifth. They each shot 69-69.
The top nine scores were as follows:
134- Dustin Volk, 67-67
136- Zach Johnson, 66-70; Tele Wightman, 67-69
137- Tommy Sharp, 69-68
138- Chris Moody, 69-69; Matt Baird, 69-69
139- Pete Stone, 71-68
140- Casey Fowles, 72-68
141- Troy Watkins, 70-71
