SUU Tops Utah Schools at Air Force Academy

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sept. 7 – Southern Utah University men’s golf opened with a 6-over 294, but improved over the final two rounds, carding a 288 and 287 en route to a 5-over 869 fifth-place team finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Sunday. The finish was tops among schools from the state of Utah as Utah State finished ninth (+18), Utah 10th (+20) and Weber State 11th (+21). Freshman Fidel Concepcion paced the Thunderbirds for the second straight tournament, firing a 3-under 213 to finish 10th. Senior Nic Booth was just three shots back, shooting an even-par 216 and finishing 21st. Tim Leonard and Sammy Cole finished 4-over and 5-over par, respectively, finishing 32nd and 38th. Jameson Keiley rounded out the team score with a 20-over 236 after struggling during the first round when he shot a 13-over 85. The sophomore bounced back and finished the tournament with a 2-over 74 and a 5-over 77. UNLV’s Taylor Montgomery won the tournament after recording a three-round total of 10-under par 206. The Rebels also captured the team title as all five golfers finished inside the top-10 en route to a 26-under 838. In addition to the schools from Utah, the tournament field also included a third Big Sky opponent as Northern Colorado finished 15th after a 44-over 908.
