Jolley-Overson Earn Spot in USGA National Four-Ball Championship at Olympic Club
The duo of Jeff Jolley and Darrin Overson shot a four-ball score of ten under par 62 at Talons Cove Monday to earn the only spot from Utah in the first annual USGA National Four-Ball Championship to be played at the famed Olympic Club in San Francisco next May.
The team of Jon Wright and Jeff Keye finished second with a score of 64, and four teams tied for third with 66s.
Overson and Jolley bogeyed the 17th hole, but made eagles on the par five 13th hole and the par four 16th hole. They had seven birdies.
Wright and Keye eagled the par four third hole, but a bogey on the next hole took a little lustre off the eagle. They finished strong with six straight birdies.
The qualifying attracted only 22 teams which was a disappointment considering the prominence of the championship site at the Olympic Club. The fact that the championship is not until next year may have been a factor in the low number of entries.
The leading scores:
62- Darrin Overson-Jeff Jolley
64- Jon Wright-Jeff Keye
66- Dan Horner-Christian Jensen; J. Milne-D. Orton; Kai Ruiz-Rhett Rasmussen; B. Gibbs-R. McCullough
