48th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship
The Pine Canyon Club played host to the 48th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship. This gem nestled in the mountains of Flagstaff, Arizona provides players with difficult tee shots into gorgeous mountain views, elevation changes on many holes and smooth, fast greens. Pine Canyon was an excellent test of golf that challenged all aspects of a player’s game.
The Utah team in 2014 was comprised of Kai Ruiz, Devon Purser, and Jordan Rodgers. Each member of the Utah team was coming off recent success at tournaments in Utah. Kai was recently coming off a semi-finals appearance at the Utah State Amateur, Jordan won the Art City Amateur in June and Devon has notched a number of top five finishes on top of a win at the Fox Hollow Amateur.
The team portion of the Pacific Coast Amateur is called the Morse Cup and is held during the first two days of the event. The best two of three scores each day during the first two days of the 72-hole championship count for the team score. After the first day of competition Utah had a share of second place led by a 4 under round by Kai Ruiz. On day two however, no Utah player finished below par and the team finished in a tie for 7th place.
