Pereira Runs Away With PCA Title; Utah Players Bunched Together in Middle of Pack
Corey Pereira, of Cameron Park, California, won the individual title of the Pacific Coast Amateur in a runaway. He shot remarkable rounds of 70-62-62-67-261 at the Pine Canyon Golf Club in Flagstaff, Arizona and won the title by eight shots over his nearest rivals.
Remarkably, he started the tournament with a bogey and a triple bogey on the first two holes of the tournament. He spotted the field by four shots and then won by eight. After that initial start he made only five bogeys the rest of the tournament. He made three eagles and 22 birdies.
The Utah players were bunched together at the end with Devon Purser and Jordan Rodgers shooting 285 for 40th place and Kai Ruiz with a 287 for 49th place.
Ruiz got off to a great start with a first round 66, but he had a hard time following up his opening round success the rest of the tournament, carding 73-73-75 in his final three rounds.
Purser shot a final round 67 to go along with his first three rounds of 71-74-73. Rodgers was the steady guy with rounds of 71-72-70-72.
