Ruiz Leads Utah to Second Place Standing at Pacific Coast Am

On the strength of a first round 66 by Kai Ruiz, of Mapleton, the Utah Golf Association team is in second place of the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship being played at Pine Canyon Club in Flagstaff, Arizona. Devon Purser and Jordan Rodgers each shot 71 to give Utah a team total of three under par 137.
Southern Cal leads at five under par 135 and Sun Country (New Mexico) is tied with Utah at 137.
The team competition is between the golf associations of the Pacific Coast Golf Association which includes Utah and other associations in the western United States.
Andrew McCain, a presidential invite from Minnesota playing as an individual, shot an eight under par 62 and leads the individual medal chase by three shots. Ruiz’s 66 was good for fourth place standing with three other players.
