Ogden, Wright in Top State Am Quarterfinal Test; Former Champion Finau in Second Place at Web.Com

The whittling process of the Utah State Am has now been reduced from 800 to eight and at the end of the day only two will still have their dreams intact.
The biggest match of the day begins at 7:30 with former champion Jon Wright facing current champion Cole Ogden in the feature quarterfinal match. The winner of that match will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between Tommy Higham and CJ Lee. In the other bracket the two matches pit Kai Ruiz and Thomas Young against each other and Preston Richards against Kurt Owen, all four of whom are newcomers in this stratosphere.
The other big tournament in the state this weekend is the Tour at Willow Creek Country Club where three former Utah State Amateur stars are testing their skills against the world’s best second tier players, just one step from the PGA Tour.
Tony Finau, State Am champion in 2006, shot an opening round 65 and is in second place. Zac Blair, State Am champion in 2008, shot 68 and is in 33rd place, and Clay Ogden, former USGA National Public Links champion and high finisher in the State Am numerous times, shot 71 and is in 103rd place.
Chris Moody, another veteran of the Utah State Am, shot 73 and is in 135th place. The highest score in the 152 man field was 76.
