Jacob Holt Shoots 64 at Valley View to Lead State Am Qualifiers at Mid-Point

Jacob Holt, who just graduated from Southern Utah University, shot a hot round of eight under par 64 at Valley View to lead the first round of qualifying of the Utah State Amateur championship.
A field of 288 players is battling for 63 spots in match play that will begin Wednesday morning at Ogden Golf and Country Club and Holt staked himself to a significant lead with his round of nine birdies and one bogey at Valley View. In contrast, the best score fired at Ogden Golf and Country Club was a one under par 69 by Justin Schluker.
It is difficult to guess what score it will take to advance to match play and weather could play a factor in that. At Valley View there were 32 scores at 72 and better and the low 32 at Ogden Golf and Country Club finished with scores of 73. Assuming that the fields have been divided equally it would appear that 145 to 147 will be the cut number to determine the match play field, but it could go higher.
After stroke play concludes Tuesday there will be a playoff at the Ogden Golf and Country Club to break the ties that generally occur at the cutline.
The first round of match play will be Wednesday morning at Ogden Golf and Country Club.
Cole Ogden is the defending champion and as such he is automatically exempt as the number one seed in match play.
As is usually the case there are some top players under pressure to improve in the second round.
