Volk, Schneiter Earn Spots in PGA Championship

Two Utah pros, Dustin Volk and Steve Schneiter, finished in the top twenty at the PGA National Championship in Myrtle Beach earlier this week and thus qualified for the PGA Championship, a PGA Tour event, August 7-10 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky
Volk finished in a tie for fifth with rounds of  71-71-76-71-289, and Schneiter shot the best round of the final day, a 69, and finished in 11th place on rounds of 72-75-75-69-291.
Schneiter won this event in 1995 and this will be his second time in the PGA Championship.
Michael Block, from Southern California, won the PGA National Championship with a birdie on the second hole of a playoff. He shot 286, just three shots ahead of Volk.
Other Utah pros who made the cut were Tommy Sharp, 75-74-74-74-297; and Matt Baird, 74-71-78-74-297.
