John Owen Coasts to Medalist Honors at Alpine Qualifier

John Owen birdied the first hole and then had a stress free day as he coasted to a six under par 66 for medalist honors at the Alpine Qualifying of the Utah State Amateur. He qualified with a ten stroke cushion.
The cut came at 76 with nine playing off for six spots. Earning spots through the gut-wrenching playoff process were two Alpine members Dan Parkinson and Brent Bryson, along with Stewart Rutter, Benjamin Elgrably, Jon Bridges, and Mitch Jones. Earning the two alternate spots were former runnerup John Tagge, and Dan Hatch. Also at 76 was Robert Smart.
One of the big names advancing was Carl Jensen, a former runnerup who has been missing from the tournament for the past few years because of family and business reasons. He shot a two under par 70.
