Zac Blair Meets First Goal, Makes Cut at U.S. Open! Now Onward and Upward
Zac Blair made it right on the money at the U.S. Open. When he posted his second round 74 for a two day total of five over par 145 the projected cut was at 143 and it appeared he probably would not make it. As the day went on the cut number kept increasing and he made the cut right on the number—and that means money. He now advances into paycheck territory.
The cut rule includes the low 60 and ties and there were 57 players and ties at 144 and thus the eight players at 145 also advanced to the final two rounds.
Par at Pinehurst for the U.S. Open is 70.
Blair will tee off at 9:44 in a twosome with Toru Tanichuci.
Some of the big name players who didn’t advance include Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, Lee Westwood, Hunter Mahan, Angel Cabrerra, Miquel Jimenez, Charl Schwatzel, Luke Donald, and Mark Wilson.
That’s pretty good company Blair left behind—–but he’s joined a pretty elite crowd and begins the last two days 15 shots behind the leader Martin Kaymer who shot a pair of 65s and holds a six shot lead on the field.
Blair, however, is only six shots out of the top ten. So anything can happen. Making the cut was the first goal, now the goal is to climb up the leaderboard.
