Moody Repeats As Utah PGA Match Play Champion
Chris Moody became the first back-to-back winner of the Utah PGA Match Play Championship since Chris Stover turned the trick a decade ago.
Moody defeated Casey Fowles in the final match, 3 and 2. Fowles was the medalist in the qualifying round and thus the number two seed. Moody was the number one seed by virtue of being the defending champion.
Moody is the assistant pro at Riverside Country Club and Fowles is the head pro at Palisade Golf Course.
Moody didn’t have an easy trip to the finals. He was taken 22 holes before edging is fellow Riverside Country Club pro Matt Baird in the first round, and in the semifinals he was forced to 19 holes by Milo Lines.
On his way to the finals Fowles defeated Mike Manning, Tracy Zobell, Kevin Esquibel, and Tommy Sharp.
