Siddens, Murphy Advance to Senior Match Play Finals After Come-From-Behind Wins
Defending champion Kirk Siddens and former Senior Amateur champion Patrick Murphy will square off Friday morning at Talons Cove to determine the 2014 UGA Senior Match Play Champion. To reach the finals they both had to win dramatic come from behind matches.
Siddens was two down with two to play against Rob Bachman in the quarterfinals. Bachman missed a couple of ten foot putts that would have closed the match, and in sudden death Siddens chipped in from 25-feet on the 21st. Siddens then defeated Craig Wilson, 2 and 1, in the semifinals. In the first two rounds Siddens defeated Kent Gressman, 4 and 3, and Kurt Jamison, 2 and 1.
Murphy has toppled some of the best players in the state to get to the final match. He began with a 19-hole win over Keith Olsen in the first round, followed by a win over Brett Sampson, 6 and 5; next came Hall of Famer Todd Barker, 1-up; and then he came from three down with nine to play to edge Dana Nelson in the semifinals, 1-up.
Eighty-year-old Dick Peacock advanced to the finals of the Super Seniors by edging Doug Rosecrans in a 21-hole semifinal thriller. He faces Dave Fischer in the championship match. Fischer defeated John Taylor, 2 and 1, in the semis.
Jason Tanner and Steve Kirk will face off in the championship match of the Net Division. Tanner has defeated Kevin Wall, 2-up; Paul Kafer, 3 and 2; and Dennis Jones, 3 and 2. Kirk defeated Ted Gressman, 5 and 4, Patrick Wilson, 2-up, and Jeff Taylor, 4 and 2.
The final round pairings for Friday morning are as follows:
7:30- Kirk Siddens vs. Patrick Murphy, Senior Championship
7:45- Dick Peacock vs. Dave Fischer, Super Senior Championship
8:00- Jason Tanner vs. Steve Kirk, Senior Net Division Championship
