BYU Men’s Team Wins Conference Title

BYU won the West Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship Wednesday at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Washington. The Cougars won by just four shots over Santa Clara and all five Cougars contributed to the victory.
Justin Keiley and Jordan Rodgers tied for fifth place individual honors with three round totals of 217. Their scores counted toward the team total all three days.
Joe Parkinson had the best individual round of the tournament for the Cougars with a 70 in the first round. He carded a 72 in the final round, but his second round, a 78, was a non-counter.
Cole Ogden’s first two rounds of 73s contributed to the win, but his final round was a non-counting 80.
Jordan Hammer’s first round of 71 and his final round of 76 counted in the victory and his middle round of 80 was the non-counter.
It is the first conference championship for BYU since 2007 when it was in the Mountain West Conference.
BYU men’s golf coach Bruce Brockbank was named Coach of the Year with Keiley, Rogers and Parkinson named to the 2013-14 All-WCC Men’s Golf Team.
“I’m really proud of the way the guys hung in there,” Brockbank said. “They came out in this cold, windy, rainy day on a challenging course and had a great start. The first nine holes won it for us. It’s great to have an automatic bid. We’re going to play great and try and get to the championships.”
BYU finished at 10-over-par with Santa Clara trailing by four strokes at 14-over-par for second place. San Francisco went for third at 15-over-par and Pacific’s Byron Meth took first place at 8-under-par.
