Utah Gets Golf Connection with Winter Olympics

Jared Goldberg, a graduate of Skyline High School and son of prominent golfer Annette Gaiotti and her husband Don Goldberg, has been named to the U.S. Alpine Ski team for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia it was announced earlier this week by the United States Ski and Snowboard Association that selects the teams.
Annette Gaiotti was unavailable for comment, but has expressed previously that “it would be a dream come true if he could make the U.S., Olympic team.” Over the years Annette and her husband toted their son to many ski events around the nation in preparation for this achievement.
Three Utahns were selected to the 11-man men’s team and one Utahn was selected for the U.S. women’s team.
In addition to Goldberg the men’s team includes Steve Nyman, of Sundance, and former gold medalist Ted Ligety of Park City. Megan McJames, of Park City, was selected on the women’s team.
The 11-man team also includes another gold medalist, Bode Miller, of Franconia, New Hampshire and the women’s team includes gold medalist Julie Mancuso of Squaw Valley, California.
Gaiotti has been selected as the UGA Senior Women Player of the Year for the past two seasons. She and her husband are members at Hidden Valley Country Club.
“It’s great to have a Utah golf connection with the Winter Olympics,” said UGA executive director Bill Walker. “It will add interest in the event for many UGA members.”
