Gaiotti in Position to Make Match Play at USGA Women’s Mid-Am, Other Utahns Trail

The USGA is conducting its Mid-Am Championships for men and women this week at different sites and after the first round of play Annette Gaiotti is the Utahn with the best chance of advancing to match play. She shot an opening round of 84 and that was good enough for a tie for 61st place. The top 64 players advance to match play. That tournament is being played at Biltmore Forest CC in Asheville, North Carolina.
At the men’s Mid-Am former Utah State Am champion Jon Wright shot an opening round of 75 and is in 103rd place and has to have an especially good round Sunday to reach match play. Utah’s Jeff Jolley is also in the tournament but shot an opening round of 77 and is 149th place. Mason Casper had a poor start with an 83. The men’s tournament is being played at The Country Club of Birmingham, Alabama.
