Blair Shoots Opening Round 69 at U.S. Amateur

Zac Blair shot an opening round 69 and appears to be in good position to advance to match play in the United States Amateur Championship. He is in 11th place and the low 64 advance to match play, but appearances can be deceptive.
The 36-hole qualifying round is being held at two courses, The Country Club and the Charles River Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, and gauging first round scores the Charles River course is giving up many more low scores than The Country Club. Blair’s 69 came on the more forgiving Charles River Course and so he moves over to the more difficult Country Club for the second round. Still, his 69 is a very good opening score.
Joe Parkinson, Blair’s BYU teammate, also played Charles River in the first round and didn’t fare so well. He shot 78 and will have to score well at The Country Club.
Both Blair and Parkinson are past Utah State Amateur champions.
