UVU Women’s Golf Team Earns High National Academic Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — The Utah Valley University women’s golf program earned academic honors from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) on Wednesday as it finished in a tie for 11th on the WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award with a 3.666 team GPA.The award, which spans all NCAA divisions, recognizes the women’s collegiate golf programs with the highest collective team GPA.The 3.666 team GPA was also good enough to rank the Wolverines in sixth place among all Division I institutions. Only Alabama (3.806 GPA), Dartmouth (3.741), Louisville (3.711), IPFW (3.675) and Arkansas (3.670) finished ahead of UVU. Overall, Lee University captured the top team GPA for the third straight year with a 3.955.”I am very proud of the accomplishments of our team members in the classroom and on the golf course. These women are terrific in every way,” said head coach Sue Nyhus. “I am fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them representing UVU. Congratulations to all of the members of our team for great performances last season.”The ranking on the all-scholar team GPA award marks a first for UVU, as the 3.666 team GPA is a program high. The Wolverines were also the only team from the Western Athletic Conference to make the list. Prior to the release of the All-Scholar Team GPA Award, five Wolverines were also honored on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team.Senior Jordyn Dougal as well as sophomores Brooke Bliss Whittaker, Hannah Herman, Heather Mathison and Lynn-Marie Nagel all made the WGCA All-American Scholar Team. Bliss Whittaker and Nagel were both honored for the second straight season while Dougal, the 2013 Great West Conference Golfer of the Year, was named an Academic All-American for the third consecutive year.
